Wrapping Up The Week (12th March – 18th March)

It’s been one of those weeks where it was very tiring and I needed a couple days of doing nothing towards the end of the week. I was hoping to have finished 3 books this week but instead it was only 2. I’m still happy about that though. With my birthday weekend coming up and the Easter bank holidays I am sure I’ll be getting a lot of reading done.

As you all probably know, I finished writing my novel a couple of weeks ago but I haven’t begun the editing process yet. I still have it running around in my head, thinking of new ways to change the story, to make it better. I might also be putting it off because it’s such a big task and I’m not really sure where to begin. Maybe a little research on the art of editing is in order.

Books I read and reviewed…

tokillakingdom

Even though I finished To Kill A Kingdom last week, I finally got the review up and submitted it to NetGalley as well. It was such a great read and very enjoyable, with fleshed out characters and a lot of action as well. If you’re a fan of pirates and sirens, you definitely have to check out this imaginative spin on the tale. You can check out my full review here.

I want to say that this is the best book I have read so far this year. Words can’t even describe how much I loved this collection of deliciously dark tales. I can’t even believe that I managed to read it all in less than 24 hours. It’s pretty much unheard of now thanks to all the responsibilities of adult life. shadow and bone

Once finishing The Language of Thorns I decided to move on to the Grishaverse trilogy because of how much I fell in love with the world that the fairy tales were set in. While Shadow and Bone started off a little slowly, it was very intriguing and a great introduction to this magical world. I cannot wait until I get to read the Six of Crows duology later on. I am currently reading…

siege and storm

After the ending of the first book I just had to buy the second one! I am about a third of the way through so far and it’s started off great with some action and betrayal. I am hoping that I enjoy it as much as the first, if not more, but hopefully I can finish it by Wednesday and have a review up as well.

WWW Wednesday – Goodbye Reading Slump

Managing to write two blog posts as well as three reviews counts as a good week for me so I’m happy. I’m getting back into the swing of things and have a couple of ideas planned. I might start a weekly feature to talk about my writing and as it is my birthday on the 24th I will be doing a birthday blog post (and possibly show off the books I get).

My WIP…

Like I said earlier, I have taken a break from the novel that I need to edit. However…I may have had an idea for another novel…And I might have already created a Pinterest board. This always seems to happen to me when I am about to edit. Something new and shiny comes along, but this time I want to write it as well as editing my previous work. Hopefully it can offer a nice, creative break from the editing which will probably feel torturous. Also, stay tuned for a book aesthetic for the new novel idea in the upcoming week. I can’t wait to share it!

The_Lord_of_the_Rings_Characters

This week my boyfriend and I marathoned The Lord of the Rings trilogy and it was amazing to watch them again. It must have been years since I last saw them and I was reminded why they are one of my favourite film series ever. We watched the first two Saturday night and the last one today before football was on. We enjoyed some tasty popcorn and chocolate, and I have no regrets about the amount of calories consumed.

And that was my week in a nutshell! I hope you all had a great one as well. Let me know what your favourite book of the week was in the comments below!

What Are You Reading Wednesday And Getting My Writing Mojo Back

We are halfway through the week already and I hope you are all having a great one so far. I know that I definitely am, as I’ve had a couple of job offers. Before I make a decision on which one I want to accept, I have to wait to hear from one more (the one I actually want). Fingers crossed that it is before Friday as that is my deadline for telling the others my choice.

My other good news is that I have my mojo back! For a little while my writing was struggling. I was rewriting my story, changing it from first person POV to third person and it was draining me. Then, the other night, all these light bulbs went off in my head and the ideas just kept coming. I managed to write a full document detailing the beginning, middle and end of my novel with a total of 2,000 words. I have to say, I felt very productive afterwards and now that I have finished the rewriting part, I can get to the fun bit.

what-are-you-reading-wednesday-header

What Are You Reading Wednesday was created by RhiannaMarissa, and Kendall. The idea of What Are You Reading Wednesday is to create an online space for bookworms to chat, discuss and recommend their current reads. All you have to do is answer a few questions and link up with one of the host’s sites. So easy!

THE NITTY-GRITTY

Share the book/s you are reading with their author, maybe even the cover, and then answer these questions for at least one of them

  1. Why did you decide to pick up this book–cover or content?
  2. Who is your favourite character so far, and why?
  3. Will you finish this one?
  4. Finish the sentence: This book reminds me of…(other books, movies, tv shows…)
  5. What type of read is this one? (slow but interesting, cannot put it down…)

My Current Read

Glass Sword

This is the second instalment in the Red Queen series by Victoria Aveyard.

1. Why did you decide to pick up this book – cover or content?

Definitely the content, as I read the first book not that long ago. Although, the covers of this series do look beautiful as well (especially the fourth book, War Storm).

2. Who is your favourite character so far, and why?

After having read the first novel, I still think that Mare is my favourite character for lots of reasons. She is stubborn and witty, getting stronger every day even when others would have crumbled.

3. Will you finish this one?

I wasn’t so sure in the beginning because I was struggling to get into the story again. But I’m only 100 pages in and I have to give it a chance to get better. After the last chapter I read, I will definitely be trying to finish it (I have the third one of my shelf, one that a lot of people liked).

4. Finish the sentence: This book reminds me of…(other books, movies, tv shows…)

In a way it reminds me of lots of dystopian books (The Hunger Games and Divergent for example) with the different factions, how people are separated and the war stricken world. They have a lot of the same features, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

5. What type of read is this one? (slow but interesting, cannot put it down…)

I am finding the second book a little slower than the first and it definitely seems more serious to me. I don’t want to give away too much in case someone hasn’t read it, but I am hoping that there will be more action later on as it started with a couple great chapters.

Wrapping Up The Week (13th Nov – 19th Nov)

Sometimes a week can go by at lightning speed and at other times it barely seems to move. This week was definitely the latter for me. It was jam-packed with job applications, meetings and interviews (sometimes multiple ones on the same day) and it involved a lot of waiting around. It wasn’t fun in the slightest. I feel like that has been reflected in the creative aspects of my life, with my writing at a standstill and feeling uninspired to pick up the book on my nightstand.

That’s the negatives, the positives of my week are that the interviews went relatively well and I have a feeling that one of them will want to hire me. It’s not everyday you have someone say “That was a really good interview” when you’re all done! I also managed to post quite a bit, finding a little spare time to draft up some posts and schedule them in.

Books I read and reviewed…

A Darker Shade Of Magic

I finally managed to post my review for A Darker Shade Of Magic, which you can check out here. This was a fantastic read and worthy of 5 stars. I’m already itching to go out and buy the rest, but I might just wait and ask for them at Christmas.

I am currently reading…

Glass Sword

I am still making my way through this, but I’m not into it. So I am very close to starting another, possibly Talon by Julie Kagawa, which I’ve heard some great things about. Plus, it’s the first in a season which means that if I like it, it’s an excuse to buy more books.

When Life Gets Stressful And The Writing Halts

I had a lot of fun writing these blog posts, especially The Writer’s Tag, and I even managed to get a little personal in the last one. Whenever I manage to pour my thoughts out it acts as therapy and hopefully it can help me in the long run. Don’t worry though, I’m not a fan of writing ranty posts, unless of course, you like that sort of thing.

Other Fun Stuff…

I am still making my way through Outlander, which I started a couple of weeks ago and I am still loving it. Not going to lie, I am definitely planning a trip to Scotland in the future, possibly next summer if possible! And the Scottish accent is growing on me too and is fairly easy to understand (but I am half Irish so I find it easy to understand accents).

Stronghold_Metadata_Image

Fun fact about me is that I do enjoy a bit of gaming as well. It is actually something that my boyfriend got me into a while ago and with the release of Call Of Duty: WWII we have been playing it quite a bit. I wouldn’t say I’m the best but I do have good aim (according to him at least). I’m actually about to go and play a bit after I have finished writing this blog post.

So, that was my week, but how has yours been? Hopefully it was full of some incredible books and creativity!

Wrapping Up The Week (6th Nov – 12th Nov)

Boy has it been a busy week for me. Not in terms of reading, but it terms of having meetings with recruitment agencies and arranging for interviews in the upcoming week (I have 3 at this moment in time). There has been so much going on, coupled with my dad coming to visit for the weekend, that I haven’t had much times to blog or read. Fingers crossed that can change this week and I will get a little bit more organised.

I do have a couple of fun blog posts scheduled in and a book review to post as well so definitely keep an eye out for those next week. I cannot believe how quickly this month is going by already, soon it will be December and Christmas will be upon us. There are so many Christmas adverts on my TV and it is getting me excited. Have you seen the John Lewis one? If so, what did you think? Personally I loved it and I’m not going to lie, I did have tears in my eyes by the end.

Onto what went on during the week on the blog…

Books I read and reviewed…

A Darker Shade Of Magic

So, while I finish A Darker Shade Of Magic, I haven’t gotten around to posting the review yet. I will be trying to get it posted for tomorrow (although I have 2 interviews to attend so it may be in the evening).

I loved the book and am so excited to go out and buy the others in the trilogy. It was magical, with fun and dark elements that made the book so interesting to read. And the characters are incredible as well! I feel like it could definitely be a 5 star review for me.

I am currently reading…

Glass Sword

The next book I am going to read will be Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard, the second instalment to Red Queen. I’ve heard some good things about this sequel and I’m intrigued to find out what else will happen in the story.

Like I said, a very quiet week but I am hoping to change that and get some great posts written up! Some good news though is I got my first Netgalley approval through which I am looking forward to reading and will mention in my November Haul at the end of the month.

Other Fun Stuff…

Stranger-Things-saison-2-image-une-critique-4-premiers-épisode-TROP-BIEN

My boyfriend and I finally got around to watching Stranger Things Season 2 and only have 2 episodes left. We are loving it, not as much as the first season but there are still a couple episode left where it can get better. I still feel like there’s more to know and discover, so we shall see.

Thor-Ragnarok-International-Character-Posters-feat

Whenever my dad comes over from Ireland to visit we always make a trip to the cinema if there are some good films out and luckily for us, Thor Ragnarok was still being shown. I love Marvel films, always have, and I think that this is one of my favourite to date. It was amazing! With great action sequences, special effects and it was hilarious from start to finish. The whole cinema was laughing at some of the lines. Definitely worth the watch!

So that is my week in a nutshell, not too much going on with my reading, but I know that I’ll have a lot to read throughout December. How has your week been? I would love to know in the comments!
