Wrapping Up The Week (1st January – 7th January)

So, how many times has everyone written 2017 and needed to change it to 2018? It’s crazy to think that it’s the beginning of the new year and I am super excited for all that it will hold. I’ve already got a holiday planned for me and my boyfriend to go to Carcassonne in France for 4 nights in May (I cannot wait)! As well as this we’ll probably be going back to Ireland in the summer for a long weekend, too.

This week flew by! The first half was spent in Ireland and the second was heading back into work and trying to rest up over the weekend. I needed the down time from all the activities we did when we visited my family in Ireland. It’s never fun getting back to reality but sometimes we need it. The plus side, I had a pretty productive week when it came to blogging and getting back into my writing after a break from it.

Books I read and reviewed…

Keeper

The first book I read in 2018 is Keeper by Kim Chance, which I received from Netgalley. I ended up really enjoying this book. It was fun, lighthearted and entertaining, everything I look for in YA novels like this one (the paranormal kind). It reminded me of the books I read when I was about 16 years old and while there were a few tropes thrown in, I couldn’t help but like it. You can check out my full review here.

I am currently reading…

heir-of-fire-uk

After finishing Crown of Midnight just before I went away to Ireland, I was itching to get my hands on Heir of Fire and now I have. I’ve read about 25% of it within a couple of days and am hoping to finish it by about Wednesday or Thursday if I can. I didn’t realise just how big the books get as the series progresses (with the fourth book being over 600 pages!).

Wrapping Up December & Setting Goals For 2018

December Book Haul (So Many Books)

My January TBR Pile

All in all, I managed to blog quite a bit this week and I’m really happy with that. My goal for 2018 is to blog at least 3 times a week (which doesn’t include reviews) so I’m off to a great start.

Other Fun Stuff…

While I was away in Ireland we got around to seeing two movies in the cinema, the first being…

star-wars-the-last-jedi

The Last Jedi! Did I enjoy the film? Hell yeah! Was it as good as The Force Awakens? In my opinion, no it wasn’t and there are many reasons for that. I re-watched TFA just before we went to see the new one in the cinema and it reminded me of how much I loved it and The Last Jedi just fell a little flat for me. I felt that it was dragged out in some areas and unrealistic in others (Leia…that’s all I’m saying on the matter). But I loved the action and the ending, so overall it was great!

jumanji

The second film we saw was Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle and let me start by saying that this film was hilarious. I was laughing out loud (the whole cinema was) and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I would even go as far as to say that I loved it more than the original (don’t shout at me). My favourite character by far was the one played by Jack Black, he definitely captured the essence of how a teenage girl acts. It was brilliant and I would watch it again in the future.

While I was away my writing took a bit of a back seat and I hardly wrote anything (and I was having too much fun with my family). However, I’m now getting back to normal and this weekend I wrote a few thousand words which I’m happy with. Not only that, but I got past the chapter I was struggling on, so all is good.

Hopefully the first week of 2018 was a great one for you all and that it carries on that way!

Wrapping Up The Week: Christmas Edition

It’s Christmas Eve, I’ve got a glass of wine beside me and I am feeling good! I can’t believe it arrived so quickly, although the last few days have been a bit of a drag as I’ve been ill with a cold/flu and a cough that is beginning to get on my nerves. Apart from that, I am excited to spend some time with the people I love, open a few presents and give them, too, as well as eating delicious food and drinking copious amounts of alcohol (just not too much wine, didn’t end so well for me last time).

On every Christmas Eve we do a buffet style dinner with a variety of food including sausage rolls, cheese bites, Indian snacks, fancy prawns and so much more. We have a few table top games where we ask fun and trivial questions (which normally cause a few laughs, which may not be good with my cough) and afterwards it’s games night. I love this time of year, I always have, and it doesn’t change now that I’m grown up (it’s better as I can drink).

Also, just in time for Christmas, I went and got my hair dyed and cut as I’m going to Ireland next week for a wedding. This is the end result, which I am more than happy with (although it is only semi-permanent so it will fade over time). As you can see, it’s a crimson red (much darker in person) and I am definitely feeling like Ariel right now.

But, as this is a wrap up, I should probably get to the bookish things that happened over the last week.

Books I read and reviewed…

First_cover_of_the_paperback

I finally managed to finish Angelfall by Susan Ee after about a month of picking it up and then putting it down to read other books. Overall, it was a fun and entertaining read that kept me wanting more. Now that I’ve finished it, I definitely want to buy the the rest of the trilogy, which I will probably do in the New Year. I gave Angelfall 4 stars and you can read my thoughts in my review here.

Finally, I am able to dive back in to this series as more of them arrived. I started this a couple days ago and I’m already half way through because it’s amazing. Crown of Midnight has me hooked and I just want to keep on reading, even when I need to do other things (such as sleep). There’s a lot of questions running through my mind and I can’t wait to read some more. You can probably expect a review early next week as I have a feeling I’ll be finishing it soon.

Top Ten Tuesday: Books I Hope Santa Brings

As it was a busy week at work and I was off ill for half of Thursday and all of Friday I didn’t write any other posts. I’m hoping to get back into a habit of blogging over the rest of the holidays so that the New Year can be a hundred times better.

My WIP…

I decided to add in another section to my weekly wrap ups in which I talk about the current novel that I am working on and the progress I am making. As I was ill I didn’t get a lot of writing done due to the pounding headache, but I hope that over the Christmas break I can reach at least 60,000 words. At the moment I’m on 49,000, which I am happy with and I worked out that I’m about halfway through the story I want to tell. I’m loving where it’s going and I just hope that there comes a day when I can share it with the world. Maybe 2018 will hold that day for me.

Other Fun Stuff…

bright

On Friday, Bright premiered on Netflix and obviously my boyfriend and I watched it straight away. If you don’t know already, Bright is a film that incorporates the elements of Fantasy (orcs, faeries, elves, dragons etc.) into our world and Will Smith plays a cop who is partnered with an orc. On a routine patrol they come across some pretty shade stuff that changes their world and they have to protect an elf with a relic that is more powerful that anyone realises. This film was amazing (I don’t care what critics say) and the two hours flew by. It was funny, entertaining and full of action, which is what I love. I would recommend it to everyone because it’s that good!

I hope your week has been incredible and that you’re just as excited about Christmas as I am. Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas!

Wrapping Up The Week (6th Nov – 12th Nov)

Boy has it been a busy week for me. Not in terms of reading, but it terms of having meetings with recruitment agencies and arranging for interviews in the upcoming week (I have 3 at this moment in time). There has been so much going on, coupled with my dad coming to visit for the weekend, that I haven’t had much times to blog or read. Fingers crossed that can change this week and I will get a little bit more organised.

I do have a couple of fun blog posts scheduled in and a book review to post as well so definitely keep an eye out for those next week. I cannot believe how quickly this month is going by already, soon it will be December and Christmas will be upon us. There are so many Christmas adverts on my TV and it is getting me excited. Have you seen the John Lewis one? If so, what did you think? Personally I loved it and I’m not going to lie, I did have tears in my eyes by the end.

Onto what went on during the week on the blog…

Books I read and reviewed…

A Darker Shade Of Magic

So, while I finish A Darker Shade Of Magic, I haven’t gotten around to posting the review yet. I will be trying to get it posted for tomorrow (although I have 2 interviews to attend so it may be in the evening).

I loved the book and am so excited to go out and buy the others in the trilogy. It was magical, with fun and dark elements that made the book so interesting to read. And the characters are incredible as well! I feel like it could definitely be a 5 star review for me.

I am currently reading…

Glass Sword

The next book I am going to read will be Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard, the second instalment to Red Queen. I’ve heard some good things about this sequel and I’m intrigued to find out what else will happen in the story.

What Are You Reading Wednesday #1

First Lines Fridays #3

Like I said, a very quiet week but I am hoping to change that and get some great posts written up! Some good news though is I got my first Netgalley approval through which I am looking forward to reading and will mention in my November Haul at the end of the month.

Other Fun Stuff…

Stranger-Things-saison-2-image-une-critique-4-premiers-épisode-TROP-BIEN

My boyfriend and I finally got around to watching Stranger Things Season 2 and only have 2 episodes left. We are loving it, not as much as the first season but there are still a couple episode left where it can get better. I still feel like there’s more to know and discover, so we shall see.

Thor-Ragnarok-International-Character-Posters-feat

Whenever my dad comes over from Ireland to visit we always make a trip to the cinema if there are some good films out and luckily for us, Thor Ragnarok was still being shown. I love Marvel films, always have, and I think that this is one of my favourite to date. It was amazing! With great action sequences, special effects and it was hilarious from start to finish. The whole cinema was laughing at some of the lines. Definitely worth the watch!

So that is my week in a nutshell, not too much going on with my reading, but I know that I’ll have a lot to read throughout December. How has your week been? I would love to know in the comments!
