WWW Wednesday – Hitting 250 Followers!

WWW Wednesday was originally hosted by A Daily Rhythm, and was taken over by Taking on a World of Words.

I just want to start by thanking the 250 people who follow my little blog. While the number may not seem huge, I’m just grateful that there are 250 of you who care about my thoughts and feeling on books. I’m hoping to do a giveaway when I reach 500 followers because that’s my next big goal.

Also, just a little heads up. My laptop has been playing up for the last few days (it keeps freezing, coming up with an error page) so I may have to send it off to see what is actually wrong with it. If that is the case then I may not be able to blog as much, but if my sister is nice enough I can borrow hers for a little bit. So that’s how my week is going so far. However, I have been reading an amazing book I can’t wait to finish.

What Are You Currently Reading?

ash princess

I am currently 72% through this ARC and oh my, it has gotten so good! It was a little slow to start with but the plot is coming together and I love the characters, especially a few in particular. Our Main character, Thora (or Theo as we find out) has lived a terrible, sad and brutal life under the strict rule of the Kaiser, a tyrant who came and took over her land, killing her mother. I recently just read a scene where I found myself holding my breath because it was so tense. I can’t wait to read the rest of it!

What Did You Recently Finish Reading?

the oracle queen

The last book I finished was the novella called The Oracle Queen and you can find my review here. It was good for a novella and I really enjoyed finding out about this particular Queen. The Oracle Queen is a sad tale, but I didn’t feel it offered much to the story of the three Queens. Honestly, I just read it because I need something to fill in the time until Two Dark Reigns comes out later on this year.

What Do You Think You’ll Read Next?

nevernight

The next book I will be reading will be to finish off Nevernight, which I am currently a third of the way through. I put it to the side to finish Ash Princess as there is only two weeks lefts until it gets released and I want to get a review up soon. However, I have been enjoying Nevernight and cannot wait to dive back into the story again.

WWW Wednesday – West-African Inspired Fantasy

WWW Wednesday was originally hosted by A Daily Rhythm, and was taken over by Taking on a World of Words.

The long Easter weekend is coming up and I am so ready for a few days away from work, catching up on sleep and going out shopping for bits for our new home. I’ve already bought a lot of stuff but I feel like I haven’t even made a dent in the list. Not to mention the fact that everything seems so expensive *crying emoji*.

I’m also going to be doing a lot of reading over the five days I have off and if I can read a couple of books I will be more than happy. And do some editing of my WIP, obviously.

What Are You Currently Reading?

children of blood and bone

I have less than 100 pages to read and I can tell you now, this is my favourite book of 2018 so far. There have been some amazing debuts already this year, but this story is special. I was hooked from the beginning by the world that is cruel and dangerous, yet mystical. The characters are incredible and I have so much love for Zelie and her journey. I can’t forget to mention that the writing is amazing, so fast paced and the descriptions are great. I cannot wait to finish it tonight (because I will stay up late if I have to).

What Did You Recently Finish Reading?

siege and storm

I finished Siege and Storm a few days ago, but have yet to write a review for it. Hopefully I can get around to it tomorrow, but I really enjoyed the second instalment and am looking forward to seeing how it all ends for the characters, especially after that ending.

What Do You Think You’ll Read Next?

As you can see, I’m a little undecided on what to read next. As much as I want to carry on with the Throne of Glass series, I really want to start ACOTAR because everyone says how good it is. I will be reading Norse Mythology on my Kindle so I just have to decide between the other two. I’m sure you’ll find out which one I chose whenever a review gets uploaded.

WWW Wednesday – Fantastical Worlds

WWW Wednesday was originally hosted by A Daily Rhythm, and was taken over by Taking on a World of Words.

Considering I read two books last week I have been taking it a lot slower this week, mainly because I have been super busy with some personal stuff. I guess I can talk about it because it will actually be happening, but I am moving house at the end of April. My boyfriend and I just got accepted to rent a property that we really wanted and I am so excited! It’s gonna be a little stressful because we have to buy all the furniture but I am looking forward to it!

Apart from that, I’m also making my way through the working week. For our birthdays we get a gift day from work and if it falls on the weekend (like mine does this year) then we can take it either on the Friday or the Monday. I chose Friday obviously, so I can’t wait to get tomorrow out of the way.

Now to talk about books!

What Are You Currently Reading?

siege and storm

I’m still reading Siege and Storm, but I am 70% of the way through and I have a feeling I will be finishing it tomorrow. I love this world, the story and its characters. We’ve been introduced to a few new ones (I love Nikolai, he’s amazing) and I find myself smiling at the dialogue and enjoying where the story is going. I feel like there’s going to be some twists and I can’t wait to finish off the trilogy.

What Did You Recently Finish Reading?

shadow and bone

The last book I finished reading was Shadow and Bone, which was just over a week ago and you can find my review here. I can see why so many people love this series because it’s amazing and Bardugo’s writing is mesmerising.

What Do You Think You’ll Read Next?

children of blood and bone

After doing my Top Ten Tuesday post on the books I want to read in Spring, it was very difficult to choose. However, I have settled on the debut novel that everyone seems to be talking about and one that debuted in the top spot on the NYT bestseller list. I can’t wait to dive into it!

WWW Wednesday – Goodbye Reading Slump

WWW Wednesday was originally hosted by A Daily Rhythm, and was taken over by Taking on a World of Words.

For the first 10 days of March I didn’t finish a single book, but in the last 4 days I have managed to finish one book I was stuck on for two weeks, finished another in less than 24 hours and a third book in two days. I think it’s safe to say that my reading slump is finally over. Sometimes it just takes one incredible piece of fiction to pull you out of it. And I am glad to see the back of that slump because it was awful.

My week has also gotten a lot better due to a little book idea that suddenly popped up in my brain. I can’t get rid of it, I can’t push it to the side and yes, I already have a Pinterest board full of images to create an aesthetic for it. This always happens when I start editing but I’m going to try and tackle both at the same time. This idea is too good to not do anything with.

What Are You Currently Reading?

siege and storm

As soon as I finished Shadow and Bone I just knew I had to start the second one. I’m not too far into it but it is off to a great start and I am still intrigued by these characters, especially the Darkling. I wouldn’t be surprised if I read it just as quickly as I did with the first, as long as it is interesting and fast paced still.

What Did You Recently Finish Reading?

I recently finished two books in the last few days (as stated above) and they were both incredible and by the same author. I think I have a new favourite and I haven’t even gotten to Six of Crows yet! The Language of Thorns was beautifully written, full of vivid descriptions and characters that jumped off of the page. I’ve already caught a reference to one of the stories in the second book of the Grishaverse trilogy and I’m so glad I made the decision to read that first. Shadow and Bone was a great read that I thoroughly enjoyed and I really connected with the characters. I can’t wait to find out what happens.

What Do You Think You’ll Read Next?

ruin and rising

Hmm, well, if I enjoy the second instalment as much as the first I have a feeling that I will have to buy the last one, Ruin and Rising. After that I will most likely begin reading Six of Crows, or I might take a break. I’m not really sure yet but as I don’t have a TBR list this month there are so many options available.

WWW Wednesday – IT’S A SNOW DAY!

WWW Wednesday was originally hosted by A Daily Rhythm, and was taken over by Taking on a World of Words.

So the title of this blog gave it away, but it snowed a ton last night and during the day over here in the UK. There was that much that my boss told everyone to stay home and work from the comfort of our houses. So while I didn’t get to go out and enjoy the snow (it was -4 so it’s not that much fun) I was busy working away and managed to not get too distracted by the white stuff falling from the sky.

IMG_7805

I did manage to read a little bit before I started my work for the day, so I guess it’s time to talk about books.

What Are You Currently Reading?

tokillakingdom

I have seen everyone reading this book lately, gearing up for its release in just over a weeks time. I have read nearly half of this book already and I am really enjoying it. Like I’ve said before, I haven’t read a book about sirens and pirates in a very long time and it’s a refreshing take on them. Hopefully I can finish this book before the weekend arrives.

What Did You Recently Finish Reading?

between the blade and the heart

Between the Blade and the Heart was a fun and entertaining read that I enjoyed, even if it wasn’t the best book I’ve ever read. The characters were fairly likeable, there were action sequences and some Norse mythology thrown in with a cool urban fantasy setting. This book was definitely different to what I am used to reading, but it was refreshing. I gave this 3 stars and you can check out my review here.

What Do You Think You’ll Read Next?

Zenith

Ugh, so I suppose I should finish reading Zenith but I just can’t bring myself to do it, and I don’t know why. I was beginning to really like this book and then I just stopped reading it and now I can’t get back into it. I don’t really want to force it (because then I know I won’t enjoy it) but at the same time I hate leaving books unfinished. Maybe I’ll give this another try at the weekend and hope for the best.

We are one step closer to the weekend now and I can’t wait to relax (and for it to get warmer as well). I hope you’ve all been having a good week and are reading some great books.

WWW Wednesday – In A Galaxy…

WWW Wednesday was originally hosted by A Daily Rhythm, and was taken over by Taking on a World of Words.

Happy Valentines Day to everyone, whether you’re loved up or single. I don’t really celebrate the day because I don’t think you should show someone you love them on one day, so me and my boyfriend got a takeaway instead. Can’t go wrong with pizza!

Time to talk about the books…

What Are You Currently Reading?

Zenith

I am a quarter of the way through Zenith so far and I’m enjoying it. Nothing has wowed me so far and we are only just getting into the story, but I like the characters. I can’t wait to find out some more of their backstories and see more of the galaxy. The only problem I have is that it can be a bit information overload at times (especially with the descriptions), but I’ll get used to the style soon.

What Did You Recently Finish Reading?

reign of the fallen

Reign of the Fallen was the last book that I read and I loved it, LOVED it! Honestly this book was so entertaining, but it also touched on a few dark subjects such as how to deal with grief and the effects it can have. The characters were amazing and everything just felt real, as if I really was the main character. You can check out my 4.5 star review here.

What Do You Think You’ll Read Next?

between the blade and the heart

I hope to finish Zenith this weekend, so I can begin Between the Blade and the Heart by Amanda Hocking. This was a NetGalley approval and is due to be released on the 22nd of this month. Hopefully I can read it before then and have a review up for you all. I just hope that I enjoy it.

WWW Wednesday – Creepy Fairy Tales

WWW Wednesday was originally hosted by A Daily Rhythm, and was taken over by Taking on a World of Words.

This week has been flying by (probably because I had Monday off from work) but I am so glad we are getting closer to the weekend. I plan on getting a lot of reading done and I cannot wait to dig into the next book I want to read.

What Are You Currently Reading?

the hazel wood

By the end of today I will no longer be reading The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert because I have read 83% of it already. Plus, it also comes out tomorrow so I am going to try and get a review up tonight. So far I’ve been enjoying it and once we finally got to the Hazel Wood it really picked up. I’m going to be honest, I thought that the majority of this book would be set within the fairy tale world of Hinterland, when it actual fact our characters spent more time trying to get there. Fortunately, I am loving this book and cannot wait to see what happens in the last section.

What Did You Recently Finish Reading?

keeper of the watch

Unfortunately, Keeper of the Watch was my least favourite read of the year so far and you can see why in more detail within my review here. I know I said I would try and read some more Sci-Fi this year but I kind of regretted reading this book a little as it wasn’t what I expected. There were some good parts though, such as the action and fast pace.

What Do You Think You’ll Read Next?

reign of the fallen

As soon as I received this book in the post I knew I would be picking it up straight away. Not to mention the fact that the Hardback and cover is absolutely beautiful. If you haven’t heard of Reign of the Fallen by Sarah Glenn Marsh then you need to check it out. It’s about Necromancers and honestly it just sounds so dark that I know I’m going to love it (or at least I hope I do).

page-break

I don’t have another NetGalley approval to read just yet, so I am looking forward to reading a hardback again. What books are you looking to read this week?

WWW Wednesday – Different Dimensions

WWW Wednesday was originally hosted by A Daily Rhythm, and was taken over by Taking on a World of Words.

Finally we have arrived at the end of January! While the weeks have gone by quickly, the month has seemed to last forever and I am glad we are moving into February. January has been a great one for reading and I discovered some incredible authors that I am really excited about.

What Are You Currently Reading?

keeper of the watch

As this book is being published tomorrow and I am over a third of the way done, I am trying to power my way through it tonight and tomorrow to get up a review up on NetGalley. So far it is good, definitely not my favourite read, but it is enjoyable. I feel that the writing style is more basic than I’m used to, with simple sentences and it is clearly aimed at a younger audience. I love the idea of travelling through different dimensions and the way that it works with the watches, a very clever idea. Fingers crossed it gets better later on in the book.

What Did You Recently Finish Reading?

I loved The Cruel Prince by Holly Black. It was great to read about the Faerie world again since it had been a few years since I last read a book like this. It was dark, twisted and engaging, something I am loving at the moment. You can read more of my thoughts in my review here.

What Do You Think You’ll Read Next?

the hazel wood

With the UK publication date a week away (it’s already out in the US) I have to get reading The Hazel Wood so I can get a review up on NetGalley. I am really excited about this one as there have been so many people raving about it. There is a long weekend coming up (once I get two more days of work out of the way) and my plan is to have it finished before Sunday if I can.

page-break

All of the books I will be reading in the next couple of weeks are mostly NetGalley approvals as all the publication dates are coming up, but there are some exciting ones I can’t wait to get to! What books are you reading this week?

WWW Wednesday – Entering The Realm of the Faeries

Me settling down for the night

WWW Wednesday was originally hosted by A Daily Rhythm, and was taken over by Taking on a World of Words.

Half way through the week already and we are one step closer to the weekend. I’ve been having a great reading week so far and I hope it can continue that way. Once again I am reading two books at a time, which is actually working pretty well and I am flying through the NetGalley books I was approved for (just praying I read them before the publication dates).

What Are You Currently Reading?

keeper of the watch

I am currently reading Keeper of the Watch: Dimension 7 by Kristen L. Jackson on Kindle as I was approved to read it on NetGalley. I’m only 6% of the way through after reading two chapters but so far it is good. It’s definitely weird reading from a guys POV, but hopefully I can get used to it the more I read. Although I will say one thing, not a fan of the cover, but the reviews for this book seem to be pretty good with a lot of 3 and 4 stars.

26032825

FINALLY, I got my hands on The Cruel Prince by Holly Black (and it was half price for the hardback, win for me). I am already a third of the way through and I only started it yesterday. It’s deliciously dark, intriguing and I can’t wait to read more. It’s been a long time since I read a book about faeries and I forgot how much I loved the folklore. I definitely expect to finish this book by the weekend.

What Did You Recently Finish Reading?

the belles

Earlier on in the week I finished The Belles by Dhonielle Clayton and I loved it! Honestly, this book was incredible with such detailed descriptions, a captivating story line and intriguing characters. I would definitely recommend this book to those who love something different, with a dark undertone and heart pounding moments. You can see my full review of The Belles here.

What Do You Think You’ll Read Next?

the hazel wood

I recently got accepted to read The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert on NetGalley (after I pre-ordered it as I didn’t think I would get accepted after weeks of waiting). I am so excited to read this book and look forward to telling you all my views on it! So The Hazel Wood will be my Kindle read for next week most likely, so I can get a review up before it comes out (I also have to cancel my pre-order).

Zenith

And finally, I am going to get around to reading Zenith by Sasha Alsberg and Lindsay Cummings, something I was meant to read a couple of weeks ago. There are still a lot of mixed reviews flying around, but I am seeing more positives than negatives so I’m excited.

page-break

So, there you have it. What books are you currently reading and loving? Let me know in the comments.

WWW Wednesday

This is my first time taking part in WWW Wednesday and I’m excited to start something new. WWW Wednesday was originally hosted by A Daily Rhythm, and was taken over by Taking on a World of Words.

I’m going to start by saying that I have way too many books I want to read and it’s getting difficult choosing which ones I’m going to read next. I’ve come up with a good plan of how I will manage to read more and that is to read two books at once. One will be a physical book and the other will be on my Kindle (I like to read at night and it’s easier with the Kindle). It’s going well so far, although I will finish my current Kindle read quickly as it’s a novella.

So without further ado…

What Are You Currently Reading?

The Young Queens by Kendare Blake (E-book)

I pre-ordered this a little while ago and as I loved Three Dark Crowns and One Dark Throne so much, I knew I had to buy this. So far I’m about 40% of the way through and I’m really enjoying it. It’s great to get a bit more of a backstory of when the girls were born, what their mother was like and how they are growing up within the homes of their foster families. I’m flying through it and wouldn’t be surprised if I finished it tonight.

Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas (paperback)

This series just blows me away every time I read it. I might even go as far as to say that it will become my favourite (that spot is currently held my The Vampire Academy series) and I am loving the third instalment. So far I have loved how it switched from the different POVs and I am particularly liking learning about the Ironteeth witches (badass or what). I’m over a third of the way through (these books really get big, don’t they?) and hopefully I can finish it at the weekend.

What Did You Recently Finish Reading?

Keeper

I finished Keeper by Kim Chance a few days ago and overall I really enjoyed it. I found it different to read from the POV of a 16/17 year old girl and to me, it seemed immature at times, but Chance perfectly captured her voice. The story was great, with a few twists here and there, and I was thoroughly entertained. You can read my review here.

What Do You Think You’ll Read Next?

Well, here’s a funny story. In my mind I had planned to read Zenith by Sasha Alsberg and Lindsay Cummings as I pre-ordered it on Amazon. Now, I pre-ordered it with The Hazel Wood, which doesn’t come out until February. Yesterday I received an email saying that Zenith would be delivered to me on the 14th of February. FEBRUARY! So I was super confused and annoyed, and then I realised it’s because I went for free delivery which groups your items into as few packages as possible. Safe to say I was very annoyed that I am going to have to wait an extra month.

So instead, I have decided that my next E-book read will be The Belles by Dhonielle Clayton which I received from NetGalley. As soon as I read the synopsis I knew it was something I’d like. And as for paperbacks, I am going to choose The Last Magician by Lisa Maxwell, which I received for Christmas from my dad.
