Top Ten Tuesday: Books I’d Slay a Dragon to Get Early

Top Ten Tuesday was originally hosted over at The Broke and The Bookish and is now over at Jana’s blog, That Artsy Reader Girl.

While this week’s topic was originally called ‘Books I’d Slay a Lion to Get Early’ I decided that a dragon would be a much better fit considering how much I love Fantasy (and dragons are much more difficult to kill, let’s be honest). All of the books on this list are ones that I am super excited about. If only time could go a little bit faster so we can get to the release dates. Some of these don’t even have covers yet!

1. Two Dark Reigns by Kendare Blake

two dark reigns

The 4th of September seems so far away *cries* however, I am loving the UK cover for the third instalment. I’ve always thought that the UK covers look better than the US ones, especially where the font for the title is concerned. I cannot wait to get my hands on this book, especially considering the ending of the second one.

2. The Wicked King by Holly Black

the wicked king

I can’t tell you how insanely jealous I am of all the people who have already received ARCs of The Wicked King. It is going to seem like a very long wait until January and by then I’m sure a re-read will be in order. Also, I really like the design of this cover and how it still incorporates the crown. Will the final book feature it fully submerged? We’ll have to wait and see.

3. These Rebel Waves by Sara Raasch

These rebel waves

Again, another book with an incredible cover. All the 2018 books are hitting it out of the park in that department. I’ve never read anything from Sara Raasch before, but this book really intrigued me. I’m beginning to love YA Fantasy that incorporates political turmoil more prominently in the story line and this sounds right up my alley. There’s also been some pretty good reviews from people who have received ARCs.

4. Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan

girls of paper and fire

I first heard of Girls of Paper and Fire on Twitter when someone retweeted the author and ever since I saw the cover, I have wanted to know more. Again, another Fantasy book, are we even surprised anymore? I’ve never read anything that is Asian inspired before, so that is a really exciting aspect of this book. I can’t wait for November 6th to roll around.

5. Darkdawn by Jay Kristoff

The UK cover hasn’t been released yet (this is the US one) and although I haven’t read Godsgrave yet, I LOVED Nevernight. This is one of the first adult fantasy books series that I’ve read and really enjoyed. It is so dark and dangerous, filled with lots of blood, violence, sex and swear words. I really enjoy the characters and can’t wait to see this trilogy through. Hopefully I can read Godsgrave before Darkdawn comes out in September.

6. Sequel to Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi

children of blood and bone

Goodreads tells me that the sequel is called Children of Virtue and Vengeance, which sounds really good if that is true. Unfortunately, it won’t be out until next year in March, and that just seems so far away! I couldn’t get enough of this story and the characters, and I’m praying that the sequel is just as good.

7. Furyborn by Claire Legrand

While this is being published towards the end of May (although my Amazon UK pre-order says June) I cannot wait to read this novel. There have been so many rave reviews saying how incredible this book is. Again, a book about kingdoms in disarray and magic is right up my alley, so I really hope this lives up to my expectations.

8. The Devouring Gray by Christine Lynn Herman

the devouring gray

Unfortunately, there is no cover for this debut novel, but I thought I would share this little description so you know what the book is about. I follow Christine on social media, so of course I keep seeing this everywhere. The idea of a contemporary fantasy is new to me and something that I would love to read. It’ll be interesting to see what the cover looks like when it is released.

9. Sequel to The Belles by Dhonielle Clayton

the belles

There is no title or cover for this book, not even a suggested release date, which is going to make it even harder to wait for this sequel. I adored The Belles when I got the chance to read it as an ARC and fell in love with the world. I’m pretty sure this is only going to be a duology, but I am looking forward to it so much.

10. Sequel to Everless by Sara Holland

Again, another sequel that I am going to find it so difficult to wait for. I am hoping that I will be able to request Evermore on NetGalley like I did with Everless, just so I can get the chance to read it early. This is another book that I raved about on the blog when I read it, just because it was such a unique idea that was different to anything I had ever read before. I will be looking forward to seeing how it ends for the characters.

And there you have it! The ten books that I would battle a fire breathing dragon for. What book are you most excited for?
